Perplexity AI Integrations with Bit Flows – Automate AI Q&A Flows

Estimated reading: 6 minutes 368 views

Perplexity Integrations: Perplexity is a free AI-powered answer engine that provides accurate, trusted, and real-time answers to any question.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the Perplexity integrations using Bit Flows. While we’ll use Bit Form as the trigger in this example, you can select any trigger that fits your specific use case. Once the setup is complete, data from each form submission will be automatically sent to Perplexity for processing or generating a response.

This beginner-friendly tutorial guides you through each step, making it easy to create your first AI-powered automation using Bit Flows and Perplexity.

You’ll need the premium version of Perplexity to create and use this integration.

Authorization of Perplexity Integrations

To set Perplexity as an action in Bit Flows, first open your Bit Flows Dashboard, then either create a new flow or open an existing one. In the Flow Builder, click the plus (+) icon to add an action. From the list of available apps, search for and select Perplexity.

After selecting your preferred action, the next step is to choose an event. For example, in this case, we’ve selected the “Ask Perplexity” event.

  • Create a Completion
  • Ask Perplexity

After selecting the action event, a new popup will appear. Here, you need to connect your Perplexity account. If you’ve already connected Perplexity before and want to use the same account, simply select it from the “Select Connection” dropdown. If not, click on “Add Connection” to create a new one.

If you’ve already created a connection earlier and want to use it with the same account, simply select it from the “Select Connection” dropdown. This saves time and avoids creating duplicate connections.

When you click the Add Connection button, you’ll be asked to enter a name for your connection and provide your token in to Value field.

To get your Perplexity API Token, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Perplexity AI account.
  2. Click the All Settings.
  3. In the left sidebar, click API.
  4. Enter the required information to create a new API group and click Save.
  5. Enter your payment details.
This step will not charge your credit card. It only stores your payment information for future API usage.
  1. Go to the API Keys tab in the API Portal.
  2. Click + Create Key to generate a new API key.
  3. Copy the API Key value and store it in a safe place.
  4. Paste the copied key into the Value field in Bit Flows

After entering your token, click on Connect. Once connected successfully, a popup will appear where you can configure the integration settings and map the fields.

Model: Select the Perplexity model you want to use for this integration.

Message: Enter the message you want to send to Perplexity. You can also map available form fields to include dynamic content in the message. Additionally, you can use FlowMathString, and System functions to enhance your message logic.
Learn more about Field Mapping.

Advance Feature

If you want to use advanced features, first enable the “Show Advanced Features” option.

Max Token: Enter the maximum number of tokens the model can generate in the completion. Make sure that the combined total of prompt tokens and max_tokens does not exceed the model’s context window limit. If left blank, the model will continue generating tokens until it hits a stop sequence or reaches the end of the context window.
Example: 900

Temperature: Enter a temperature value between 0 and 1.999 (inclusive). This controls the randomness of the model’s response.

  • Higher values (e.g., 1.5) make the output more creative and unpredictable.
  • Lower values (e.g., 0.2) produce more focused and consistent results.
    Example: 1.5

Presence Penalty: Enter a value between -2.0 and 2.0. Positive values penalize tokens that have already appeared in the text, encouraging the model to introduce new topics.
Note: This setting cannot be used together with frequency_penalty.
Example: 1

Frequency Penalty: Enter a multiplicative penalty greater than 0. Values above 1.0 reduce the likelihood of the model repeating the same tokens, while 1.0 means no penalty is applied.
Note: This setting is not compatible with presence_penalty.
Example: 1

Top-p (Sampling Value): Enter a nucleus sampling threshold between 0 and 1 (inclusive). For each token generated, the model will consider only the tokens that fall within the top p probability mass.

Top-k Sampling Value: Enter the number of tokens to retain for top-k filtering, using an integer between 0 and 2048 (inclusive).

  • A value of 0 disables top-k filtering.
  • Higher values allow more token options, leading to more diverse outputs.

It’s recommended to adjust either top_k or top_p, but not both simultaneously.
Example: 1000

Once you’ve finished these settings, you can either click the “Test Run” button to check if the integration is working correctly or simply close the popup to complete the setup.

note-icon-bit-apps  Note

When you click the Test Run button, the output will be displayed just above it. However, please note that Test Run results are not recorded in the logs.

You also have the option to test the full flow. You can either click “Listen Response” and then run the trigger event (e.g., submit the form), or use existing data to test the integration and make sure everything works correctly.

After completing all the steps, click the “Logs” icon at the top-right corner of the Flow Builder to view your integration logs. Logs help you verify if the trigger and action worked correctly and make it easier to spot and fix any issues.

That’s it! You’ve successfully set up an automation in Bit Flows to connect your trigger with Perplexity. Now, whenever the trigger event occurs, a message will be sent to Perplexity, and you’ll receive a dynamic AI-generated response based on your configuration. This completes your Perplexity integrations with Bit Flows, enabling smart, automated workflows powered by AI.
